Clannad - My Favorite Anime Ever - 10/10

"So simple, so profound"
Genre: Slice of Life, School Life, Romance, Drama

Summary: A very sickly girl struggles to make friends and get through high school. Along the way, she meets a boy who gives her the strength to acheive her dreams.

Characters:

Furukawa Nagisa - A girl with incurable and unknown illnesses. She has been held back in school due to missing too many days. When she meets Okazaki, she is already a year older than he is. Still, she tries to be optomistic and works hard to enjoy and be successful in her high school life.

Okazaki Tomoya - Tomoya is the main character of this show. He is a pretty normal guy: sweet, devoted, good heart. He does have issues with the way his father treated him. He takes a fancy to Nagisa and resolves to help her through her difficulties.

Other characters include relatives of Nagisa and Okazaki and the friends they made at school and around town.

Art: Beautiful. Complements the story perfectly. The characters are well-proportioned and expressive and the environments are beautiful.

My review: This show connects you to the characters. You feel what they feel. It has some of the best character development I have ever seen in any show. The story itself is common, but because of the character development and the way they don't just stop the story at common points, but let it truly play out to the end, Clannad becomes a beautiful masterpiece.

Targeted Audiences: Females, though I did watch some episodes with my male friends and they also connected with it. I remember gathered around the computer watching the final episode of Clannad in the production suite of my film school. We were so moved by this show.

Who will love it: People who are not just seeking entertainment, but something deeper. Story, well-developed characters, being genuinely moved to feel with those on the screen, beautiful and emotional music...

Who will hate it: Naturally, people who only want to be entertained: people who just want to sit there and disconnect. This is a show where you need to connect to truly "get" it. If you just watch it, it won't be that interesting.

Disclaimer: None. It is truly everyone friendly.

Overall: I admire the creator of this story so much. Brilliance. I can't express in words how I felt after watching Clannad, then Clannad the Movie, and finally Clannad After Story. I want to watch it again, but at the same time, I don't want to lose this strong, fond memory I have of this anime. Perhaps the only way to do this is to watch it with someone who is watching it for the first time. The word "beautiful" just doesn't do it justice.

This is my favorite anime ever.
